Music in the Squares returns to Formentera

cartell 2020 musica a les placesEarlier today the Formentera Department of Culture unveiled the summer 2020 programme for Música a les Places (Music in the Squares), a series of weekly intimate concerts in La Savina, Es Pujols, Sant Francesc and Sant Ferran.

Culture consellera Susana Labrador described reactivating the local cultural scene as particularly important after the economic, social and public health crises triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic. “It’s why we’re so thrilled to present a programme that promises to fill Formentera’s squares with music and and give even more recreational options for tourists and locals”, she said.

The programme covers an array of musical styles, from World Music and Latin sounds to blues, soul, rock, heavy metal and jazz, and proposes concerts in open-air venues. To prevent the spread of Covid-19, the audience will be restricted to a seated area, with physical distancing rules in place and limited capacity maintained.

La Savina
Monday night music returns to La Savina from 29 June to 28 September with Els Dilluns al Port (Mondays at the Port). Concerts start at 10.00pm and proffer a dose of pzazz for the Passeig de la Marina.

Es Pujols
With the World Music series, Es Pujols’ Plaça d’Europa will have live music too, with a programme that welcomes back veterans Antena Libre. The Thursday night concerts kick off at 10.00pm and runs 25 June to 22 October, taking a break in August.

Sant Ferran
Starting at 10.00pm every Friday from 26 June to 25 September, Sant Ferran’s Música en Viu (Live Music) programme plays out in the Plaça de l’Església.

Sant Francesc
When the classic Saturday night jazz series returns to the Plaça de la Constitució from 27 June to 26 September, crowds can look forward to 10.00pm concerts from the island’s most cherished jazz outfit, Jazz&Co.

From the start, Música a les Places has had help from collaborators like Jazz&Co, Antena Libre, La Savina Residents’ Association and the Balearic Port Authority.

Essential to the programme is the yearly renewal of a collaborative agreement between the Consell de Formentera and Estrella Galicia. Every year, Estrella Galicia sponsors countrywide concerts and supports independent, alternative festivals. The Consell salutes Estrella Galicia for their longstanding commitment to music and culture in Spain.
