Formentera hosts awareness activities for International Day of Persons with Functional Diversity

The Formentera Office of Social Welfare (Conselleria de Benestar Social/CBS) is pleased to report that for International Day of Persons with Functional Diversity, 3 December, an assortment of activities will take place starting this weekend at the municipal football field and ending 3 December with a charity walk.

The activities are organised by the Association of People with Special Needs of Eivissa-Formentera (Apneef); the Association ofFibromyalgiaand Fatigue SyndromeChronicof Eivissa-Formentera (AFFAC) and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), and benefit from the support of the Consell de Formentera.

Councillor of Social Welfare Rafa Ramírez praised the work of these associations that work "to improve the social integration of people with functional diversity" and underscored the importance of agitating for the rights of functionally diverse individuals. The councillor stressed that "the support of the administration is decisive in achieving this goal" and encouraged the people of Formentera to participate in the awareness-building activities.

Activities scheduled in the days ahead, in chronological order:

12 noon, Sunday 28 November | Municipal football field
People with functional diversity get in free to the match between SD Formentera and Cerdanyola del Vallès CF, plus, there will be an inclusive reading at the start of the match.

29 November to 2 December | Ràdio Illa 107.9. www.radioillaformentera.cat 
Experts in integration, diversity and people with disabilities feature in a segment called 'Diversely Skilled'.

5.00pm, Thursday 2 December | Punt de Lectura, Espai Cultural de Sant Ferran
Núria Font and Amaya Fernández host a story-time called 'El cazo de Lorenzo'. Limited capacity. For children 2-3 years old and up.

6.30pm, Thursday 2 December | Casal de Joves
Programme for International Day of People with Functional Diversity.
Screening of the short film Bla Bla Bla Bla (4 min, 2015)

This Thursday, psychologist Cristina Torres Costa talks positive education as part of 'Talks for families and teachers'

The Formentera Office of Social Welfare is pleased to report that from 5.00pm this Thursday 25 November, islanders can catch 'With positive education, everybody wins!', the latest instalment in the 'Talks for families and teachers' lecture series. Led by psychologist and family intervention expert Cristina Torres Costa, the talk will take place in the plenary hall (sala de plens) of the Consell de Formentera. Childcare will be offered. Underage attendees must wear a mask and current public health measures will be enforced. Formentera stages two days in support of volunteerism

The Platform for Volunteering in the Balearic Islands (Plataforma del Voluntariat a les Illes Balears), in collaboration with the Formentera Office of Social Welfare (Conselleria de Benestar Social), will host two face-to-face gatherings on the island on 26 and 27 November. The first, geared toward local volunteer groups, is an informative session where attendees will learn about the regulatory requirements under the law and available resources and benefit from a space for joint assessment. The info session will take place 26 November from 4.00pm to 6.00pm in the Consell de Formentera conference room (sala d'actes).

The second gathering is designed as a basic training session for individuals who have recently started volunteering as part of a programme or are interested in learning about the world of volunteering. That event will be held 27 November from 10.00am to 2.00pm in the same place.

Councillor of Social Welfare Rafael Ramírez encouraged volunteer groups and interested islanders to get to know the world of volunteering and to participate in it. "Volunteering is an active driver of social transformation and we must promote public policies to foment it and spread the word", he said.

Meeting of Formentera's network of social and educational services

About twenty representatives of local associations, groups, primary and secondary schools and law enforcement as well as specialists from departments of local government took part in a meeting of the island's Social and Educational Network convened by the Formentera Office of Social Welfare (Conselleria de Benestar Social). Councillor of Social Welfare Rafael Ramírez and Councillor of Education and Culture Susana Labrador were also on hand at the meeting, which focused on assorted projects and initiatives afoot on the island, including efforts by the ANAR Foundation to help children and adolescents, the 'Don't drown in alcohol' campaign to tackle underage drinks sales and drinking, preparation of Formentera's newest drugs strategy, the Talks for Families and Teachers lecture series, a capacity building course for parents, the Comprehensive LGTBI Support Service and LGTBI Plan. Attendees also heard a review on upcoming activities planned for Children's Month.

Dietitian Lydia Micó addresses intentional eating in the 'Talks for families and teachers'

The Formentera Office of Social Welfare (Conselleria de Benestar Social)-hosted series 'Talks for families and teachers' returns on 11 November at 5.00pm with 'Conscious Eating: The art of being present while at the table', presented by dietitian and nutritionist Lydia Micó.

The talk will take place in the Sala de Plens of the Consell de Formentera and childcare will be available. All attendees must wear a mask and public health measures in place at the time of the activity will be enforced.
