Plenary members endorse maximum legal coverage to maintain beach services

foto 2022v ple extra2In a one-off plenary assembly held today, GxF and PSOE cabinet members overcame the "no" votes of Sa Unió representatives in the opposition to obtain the maximum legal coverage to maintain beach services on Formentera. Councillors agreed to ask for reports from the technical services of the Formentera Office of Environment, Consell de Formentera legal services and Dr. Avel·lí Blasco Esteve, professor of administrative law at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB).

"Formentera's beach services are crucial", said Antoni Tur, Councillor of Environment, "they help maintain the image that tourists have of the island and they keep beaches clean and safe, not to mention their social importance for islanders, so we are seeking the maximum legal coverage, and the highest level of security to provide guarantees to companies and people involved in this process and also to the administration".

Traffic reopened on Carretera des Ca Marí

foto 2022 ca mari obres AThe Consell de Formentera is pleased to report that today traffic has been reopened in both directions on the road to Es Ca Marí. In the last few days, resurfacing work has been carried out on the stretch of road affected by Red Eléctrica de España's installation of the third cable.

This summer, however, there will be a temporary drinking water pipe on the right side of the road towards Es Ca Marí. The exposed pipe will require the road be narrowed, and the change will be signposted and the speed limit reduced.

Work on the third cable has not been completed and will resume after the tourist season. The operations to connect Eivissa's Torrent substation with the Es Ca Marí substation on Formentera will include deployment of two 132 kilovolt (kV) links and will make it possible for Formentera to meet its electricity needs safely and stably, according to REE. The infrastructure project has a budget of €96 million.

Camí des Simonets

Further, in the days ahead the Consell de Formentera will review the state of Camí des Simonets and the other alternative routes used in recent months to access Es Ca Marí and will repair them.

Lastly, the Consell de Formentera wishes to apologise to the residents of the area for the inconvenience caused by this important work for our island.

Formentera Local Police cite three cases of street vending, eight so far this season

foto 2022 pinyesToday the Formentera Local Police issued three citations for street vending on the island. In a control carried out in the port of La Savina, officers seized fruit that was intended for sale on local beaches. Four pineapples, 35 coconuts and 30 cups with assorted fruit were confiscated.

On Sunday 15 May, three more reports were issued for street vending, another on 9 May and another, the first of the season, on 30 April. In the latter cases, all the complaints were made in the beach area of Ses Salines Nature Reserve. As today, fruit was also seized.

Consuming these products may pose a health risk, since they have not been submitted to health and safety controls. For this reason, islanders are asked not to buy this product and reminded that street vending constitutes unfair competition for Formentera businesses.

Street vending is banned across Formentera.

Consell explores all possible legal avenues to ensure seasonal services on Formentera beaches

The Consell de Formentera has contracted an expert professor in administrative law at the University of the Balearic Islands to draft a legal report exploring all possible ways to guarantee seasonal services on the island's beaches. The Consell de Formentera's priority is to offer this service as soon as possible. Amid the large number of appeals currently being filed concerning public tender of beach service contracts, as well as two administrative disputes filed last week, the Consell requests this legal report as a legal guarantee to exhaust all options to offer the service this season.

Further, the Consell highlights the work of the administration's technical staff as well as their independence and commitment throughout the process, which is being carried out with rigour and in line with current legislation. External legal counsel has also been requested to expedite the process and to respond to allegations and appeals.

Consell begins process of stabilising 242 administration posts

The human resources department of the Consell de Formentera reports that last week, negotiations with local unions brought approval for the Special Public Employment Offer, an effort to reduce temporary employment in the public administration as part of the emergency measures included in Law 20/2021. The process will involve stabilising the posts of a total of 242 civil servants and employees of the Consell de Formentera.

Paula Ferrer, Councillor of Human Resources, highlighted "the efforts of the Consell and other administrations to reduce temporary employment and guarantee workers' right to stable employment".

Ferrer underscored "constant dialogue" between unions and the Consell: "Stabilisation of the workforce is a process which unites us all behind a shared purpose, so I want to praise the work of the unions, who have demonstrated at all times their seriousness and willingness to make something difficult simple".

In 2021 local decision-makers agreed to give public employees the option to accredit their work with the Consell de Formentera as professional career-grade employment. Social partners met four times and are working to renew the workers' agreement and the registry of posts, among other issues. "The path ahead is long, and I hope that we will continue to walk it together", concluded Councillor Ferrer.
