For Diada de Sant Jordi, Marià Villangómez Library programmes day of children's activities in Plaça de la Constitució

The Formentera Office of Culture is pleased to report that Marià Villangómez Library has scheduled a day of children's activities in Plaça de la Constitució next Saturday 23 April, Diada de Sant Jordi.

First, author Elisabet Fàbregas will offer a reading of L'euga negra i el pou de n'Aubarqueta at 11.30am. This is a children's book consisting of two stories -"L'euga negra i la torre des Molar" and the second is "El petit Xiu Xiu i el pou de n'Aubarqueta"- strung together by a swallow. With this book, Fàbregas wanted to preserve the simplicity in the telling of the two stories without losing the musicality of the words and images.

Second, Justin Hindley, the illustrator of L'egua negra..., will conduct a workshop on recognising the fauna and flora of Eivissa and Formentera in order to draw them afterwards. Space will be available for up to 20 children and participants must be accompanied by an adult. Marià Villangómez Library will provide participants with all necessary material.

Úrsula Pomar and Jota Hidalgo present a one of a kind flute and piano recital on Formentera

The Formentera Office of Culture is pleased to report that Saturday 23 April, the Sala de Cultura (Cinema) will host a concert of transverse flute and piano performances of works by C.P. Bach, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Mozart and more.

This flute and piano recital showcases Úrsula Pomar, director and instructor at the Formentera School of Music and Dance (EDMF), and José Jaime Hidalgo, a pianist and former local teacher. The pair crossed paths while teaching at the EDMF, and are classically trained artists who exude virtuosity and passion for their instruments.

A young flautist from Sóller (Mallorca) and one of the foremost flute players of the moment, Pomar has been admitted to several postgraduate programmes to work with the most renowned flutists in the world.  She is also a member of the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya. Currently she combines a soloist career with her role as director and teacher at the EDMF.

José Jaime Hidalgo, a Valencian pianist specialised in opera and ballet, has cultivated an extensive artistic career that began at a very young age. He is also a noted improviser, composer and educator. A national concert pianist, Hidalgo has also performed in Paris, and his talent as an opera repertoire player has taken him to a multitude of Italian and Spanish theatres including Teatro di Roma, La Fenice in Venice, Palacio de las Artes in Valencia and the Ópera de Tenerife, among others.

The show will take place at 8.30pm on Saturday 23 April in the Sala de Cultura (Cinema). The performance is part of the Diada de Sant Jordi programme. Admission is €7, and 50% off for unemployed people, under-employed freelancers, retirees, under-25s and single-parent and large families.

Tickets will be on sale at www.entradesformentera.cat and half an hour before the performance at the box office. The show will be carried out in accordance with safety protocols and in compliance with current regulations.

Maurizio Lamberti displays photos at Sala d'Exposicions "Ajuntament Vell"

The Formentera Office of Culture is pleased to report that from 19 to 30 April the Sala d'Exposicions "Ajuntament Vell" will host "Dualislad" by Formentera resident Maurizio Lamberti.

For Lamberti, "Dualislad" expresses the idea of uniting two different visions of the same reality. The photographs in some works are readily distinguishable, while in others, a more careful eye is required to pick out the distinct points of view and motifs. In this way, Lamberti pieces together our island like the pieces of a puzzle. As the artist comments, "These not so visible parts contribute to the uniqueness of the island".

The exhibition, Lamberti's first in 2022 to feature photographs, shows a different view of Formentera through multiple overlapping images. In this way, through varying opacities in the same photograph, we can see a new context with some motifs recognisable to all.

The exhibition opens its doors on Tuesday 19 April at 6.00pm. "Dualislad" will remain on view until 30 April at the Sala d'Exposicions "Ajuntament Vell", Monday to Saturday from 11.00am to 2.00pm and 6.00pm to 8.00pm.

The exhibition space will be closed Sundays, bank holidays and Monday mornings.

Literary presentation at Marià Villangómez Library for Sant Jordi 2022

The Formentera Office of Culture is pleased to report that this April, Marià Villangómez Library has scheduled a book presentation for the Diada de Sant Jordi 2022.

Author Lluís Ferrer will present his book Cómics y censura: De Wonderwoman a Charlie Hebdo at 7.00pm next Thursday 21 April. He will be accompanied by Maite Ferrer. Born in Cala Mestella in 1971, Lluís Ferrer is one of the most prestigious writers, essayists and screenwriters of our time. The writer says that this book reflects the censorship that has always been present in comics, from the 1930s to date. The most recent example of this censorship involved one of the final issues of the Marvel Comics-published series Conan, for which the author drew a young woman in a bikini which was altered for a dress that has nothing to do with the original image.

Cómics y censura was inspired by lectures that Ferrer gave last year, one of which was held at Marià Villangómez Library in December. In addition to the subject matter covered in the lectures, the book includes covers, illustrations and documents of censorship, among other novelties.
