“Contes d’África”

cartell 2020 Contes d AfricaThe Department of Culture reports that this Friday 18 September, Formentera families can see David Novell and Monma Mingot’s production of Contes d’Àfrica, a smattering of stories issued from the African continent and dreamt up under the shade of the great baobab tree.

Members of Clownidoscopio Teatre, a family stage troupe founded on Eivissa in 2009, Novell and Mingot deliver a show that comes to life with fresh, plainspoken language, clownery, physical theatre and music.

Contes d’Àfrica will start at 6.30pm in the patio of Sa Senieta (Sant Francesc). Capacity restrictions will be in place and public health measures enforced, and the audience is asked to arrive roughly 15 minutes before showtime.

Muntsabee’s “Vida Morta” takes up at Centre ‘Gabrielet’

foto 2020 vida morta 1Today through 8 September, Centre Antoni Tur ‘Gabrielet’ will host Vida Morta, an exhibit by the Barcelona-born and Formentera-based photographer Muntsa Darné, alias Muntsabee.

Vida Morta at its core is a reckoning with death”, confides the artist. “It’s about my uneasiness with regard to things that have ceased to exist or simply transformed into something else. Loss is a profound feeling at times difficult to express”, she asserts.

Darné insists each of her pieces is a creative process meant to transfer an emotion, and to share it she uses words and symbols of beings that are no longer here: a butterfly, a coded letter in a book...

The exhibit will be on view 11.00am to 2.00pm and 6.00pm to 10.00pm until 8 September (closed Wednesdays and Sundays).

Laura Maresc’s “Preludi”

cartell 2020 laura marescDoors at the ‘Ajuntament Vell’ exhibition space open this Monday 31 August at 7.00pm for Laura Maresc’s Preludi. All week long save for Sundays and Monday mornings, islanders can see the show from 11.00am to 2.00pm and 7.00pm to 9.00pm until 12 September.

A reflection on the fragility of landscapes that works by turning the spotlight on nature, Preludi is an ensemble of sculpted work largely fashioned from objects in dialogue with their natural surroundings at the moment Maresc collects them. The artist’s compositions occupy a playing field in perpetual, if fragile, equilibrium, and the concept of the nest —a recurring theme in Maresc’s work— transports the beholder to place at once original and primitive. It is, according to the artist, a jumping-off point.
