Natural art of Laura Larocca arrives at Centre Antoni Tur "Gabrielet"

foto 2021 expo hallazgoArtist Laura Larocca opens on Friday 22 October at Centre Antoni Tur 'Gabrielet' with her first solo show, "Hallazgo Natural". An Argentine living on the island for the last two years, Larocca shares her paintings, wall sculptures and installations created with lifeless sea sponges she handpicks from the beaches of Formentera with permission from the Balearic Ministry of Environment and Territory. Zeroing in on a single detail of the landscape, Larocca creates sensory experiences, highlights textures and aromas, and invites us to imagine their sounds.

"Hallazgo Natural" is on view from 11.00am to 2.00pm and 6.00pm to 9.00pm until 31 October.

Múcab Dans regales Eivissa and Formentera with 'Blowing' – a visual, poetic and innovative ride to world of fantasy

cartell 2021 blowingNext Saturday and Sunday (23–24 October) audiences at Formentera's Sala de Cultura (Cinema) and the Ibiza Congress Center will witness a marvel and find out where millions and millions of wishes go after being made by people young and old round the planet...and just who it is that makes them all come true. This is the idea behind "Blowing", a production by Múcab Dans which showcases dance, live music and multimedia technology to immerse the audience in universes at once fascinating and fantastic.

Crowds will trace the journey of a small spore on a mission to make a very special wish come true. Múcab Dans mobilise the poetic journey, in which situations run the gamut from the comic to the absurd, bridge the gap separating young spectators from dance. The show takes on a whole new dimension as multimedia surroundings are employed to create an interactive set in which dramaturgy and choreography are fully integrated.

The all-ages "Blowing" is directed by choreographer Toni Mira (Premi Nacional de Dansa 2010), a force to be reckoned with in contemporary Catalan creation. Formentera audiences can catch the production from 6.00pm on Saturday 23 October. Tickets cost €4 and go on sale Friday at www.entradesformentera.cat . Crowds in Santa Eulària will get their turn the same time the very next day. Admission at the Ibiza Congress Center costs €10 online and €12 at the box office.

Múcab Dans

Múcab Dans's members started their dance troupe between Barcelona and Girona with the idea of creating multidisciplinary shows, blurring the lines between the performing and visual arts, finding their own voice and bringing the language of movement to the masses.

The company's creations are sensitive to the sensibility and experience of the general public, and they strive to bring audiences closer to an artistic discipline, dance, which spectators often see as distant or unapproachable.

That's why Múcab Dans uses (not abuses) new technologies and multimedia for interactive scenography, lending their sets a new scenic dimension, always at the service of dramaturgy and choreography and in a quest for a new vision of dance and in the way of telling things.

Cultural support

The production's run in the Pine Islands happens thanks to the Platea Programme of Spain's Ministry of Culture, which delivers professional productions from across the country at special discounts and always ensures top-notch crowd-pleasers. It is also part of the Consell de Formentera's L'Illa a Escena programme for the performing arts.

Health and safety protocols will be in place at the shows.

Formentera savours unbeatable 4-day soundtrack at 7th Formentera Jazz Festival

foto 2021 fjfCThe Formentera Offices of Tourism and Culture are pleased to report that the Formentera Jazz Festival was held from 23 to 26 September. Forced by the pandemic to opt for an exclusively virtual programme in 2020, organisers of the seventh “FJF” combined in-person and virtual events.

Consell de Formentera President and Councillor of Tourism Alejandra Ferrer praised organisers for bringing back the festival, which brings top-notch music to the island and offers tourists and islanders alike a line-up of culturally-rich acts.

According to FJF director Maxwell Moya, 2021 found the festival reaffirming its mission of connecting audiences with nature and the magic of the island through live music.

Music-wise, FJF continues to showcase the convergence of jazz with varying musical genres, encouraging talent, as in years past, from both the national, regional and local scenes. FJF also meant talks and workshops, and offered spaces for reflection on future challenges faced by the island and music industry in terms of sustainability.

FJF was launched in 2015 by Formentera native Maxwell Moya, and has been backed by the Consell de Formentera since its first year.

'A collection of contemporary art II. Fotografies' holds court in 'Ajuntament Vell'

cartell 2021 expo IIBAt the centre of an exhibition of photos set to open at 6.00pm on Monday 11 October are the lives of human beings and their relationship with the cosmos.

Dubbed “A collection of contemporary art II. Fotografies”, the show is booked until 23 October at “Ajuntament Vell” municipal gallery.

The second in a series of exhibitions from the Catalina Verdera collection, its forerunner was a close-up on the legacy of the pictorial work of Erwin Broner. The focus of the first show was sculpture; the driving force of the second is photography.

Thirteen artists feature among the works, a decidedly eclectic selection which takes a wandering journey across assorted approaches to the photographic discipline, from unartistic portraiture to conceptual works which leverage photography as a means to an end.

The exhibition is in itself a compilation of stories, reflections and political stands.

There is a common thread that starts with the universe, our relationship with the cosmos, the origin of life, and proceeds into philosophical, anthropological and social fields. Additional featured works speak to the lives of human beings, and the show is supplemented by photographs of architecture and spaces.

Trampolí Mecànic presents the exhibition in association with the Consell de Formentera and Ràdio Illa. It was curated by Manolo Oya.

‘Color local’, photos from Formentera and Eivissa, on view at 'Ajuntament Vell'

cartell 2021 color localThe Formentera Office of Culture is pleased to announce that from 27 September, Marcelo A. Fernandez’s “Color local”, a selection of photographs taken between Formentera and Eivissa, will be on display at the "Ajuntament Vell" gallery.

Fernandez attempts to channel our fondness for the familiar and quotidien; moments, objects or places seemingly devoid of interest, where we must detach ourselves from acquired notions and direct our gaze toward what we think we know, as if we did not know it. How can we stumble on surprises when we have learned to let nothing surprise us?

Photographs are born out of an act of discovery rather than creation, Fernandez never intervenes or prepares a scene, nor does he ever crop the original image. It is a process in which intuition and spontaneity are essential and leave little room for the trained mind. The more unconscious, the more spontaneous, the better.

For Fernandez, snapping pictures is self-expression, a way to explore the everyday in an abstract way. The camera is the vehicle and the mechanism to plunge oneself into one's own evocations.

Fernandez holds a diploma in photographic art from the Pedro Luis Raota Nuñez Instituto Superior de Arte Fotográfico, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The show, including 19 limited-edition colour prints on FineArt Hanhemühle Smooth photographic paper, opens Monday 27 September at 6.00pm and will run until 9 October. Hours are 11.00am to 2.00pm and 6.00pm to 8.00pm. The gallery closes on Sundays and Monday mornings.
