Can you imagine witnessing the birth of Planet Earth and sharing it with your baby? Embark on this moving journey with "Baby Esferic", the latest instalment of L'Illa a Escena 2023

The Office of Culture of the Consell de Formentera is pleased to report that Aboon Teatre will present Baby Esferic, a silent production expressing emotions through shapes and lights, at the Sala de Cultura (Cinema) from 6.00pm on Saturday 11 March. This 45-minute play is intended for children between six-months- and four-years-old, as well as their guardians. Through various stories and landscapes, this homage to the Earth speaks of the magic that ties us to the planet and its inhabitants. With immensely visual language, a white sphere is the main character that will be transformed into varying friendly animals. The aesthetic, minimalist and delicately visual, lets viewers' imagination run free.

As the troupe explains, Baby Esferic "awakens the imaginations of adults and children alike. We make the child's experience accessible to adults and create a harmonious space between these two realities."

Prices and tickets
Tickets are available now at www.entradesformentera.cat for €4 (includes access for baby and adult). The reduced price of 50% discount is for unemployed and self-employed people without activity, retired people, people with functional diversity, people under 25 years of age, single-parent families and large families.

Unemployed people, under-employed freelancers, retirees, under-25s, people with functional diversity, single-parent families and large families pay half price.

Artist Susana Cardona recalls a forgotten past with 'Terra' exhibition at Ajuntament Vell

The Office of Culture of the Consell de Formentera is pleased to report that from 7 to 18 March the Sala d'Exposicions "Ajuntament Vell" will host artist Susana Cardona's exhibition "Terra". In this exhibition the artist shares her paintings of the figures that populated her childhood, as well as her memories of the styles and values of the countryside. The opening will take place on Monday 6 March at 7.00pm.

In the artist's words, "I am fascinated by everyday activities, and render this gaze conscious through my paintings. It is a way to mark ourselves as individuals from Eivissa and Formentera with a past that we must respect, admire and understand."

The artist, born on Formentera in the early eighties, affirms that her memories in Sant Ferran marked her personality indelibly. With the help of several painting courses she developed this passion where she learned and developed to use India ink. She also describes her discovery of the paintings of Ibizan Antoni "Portmany" Marí Ribas as "crucial", particularly his representation of the women of the Ibizan countryside who, she says, "have come to my heart and have come to stay."

Cardona has displayed work in the parish hall of Sant Ferran, and on Eivissa, in Sant Agustí's Sala de Cultura Can Curt and Es Cubells municipal gallery.

The exhibition will open on Monday 6 March at 7.00pm. The collections can be visited 11.00am to 2.00pm and 6.00pm to 8.00pm, Monday to Saturday, 7 to 18 March at the Sala d'Exposicions "Ajuntament Vell". The space will be closed on Sundays, holidays and Monday mornings.

Next Thursday, 9 March, 'Cuentos desenvueltos' at Sant Ferran Reading Spot

The Office of Culture of Consell de Formentera is pleased to report that at 5.00pm, next Thursday 9 March, Laura Mandarina will perform "Cuentos desenvueltos", the second instalment of a storytelling series organised jointly with La Panera Vermella, at the Reading Spot (Punt de Lectura) in the Espai Cultural de Sant Ferran. This event is geared toward children aged 3 to 12.

The books that make up the educational part of "Cuentos desenvueltos" have been chosen for their significance in the lives of children, copies sold and psychological and emotional characteristics, physical attributes and roles of characters, as well as symbolism promoting gender equality, as the author explains.

Some of the titles mentioned are: "El príncipe Serafín" by Raquel Diez, "Yo voy Conmigo" by Raquel Díaz Reguera, "Las princesas también se echan pedos" by Illan Brennann and "Daniela Pirata" by Susana Isern Gómez. The common thread of the session is children's participatory comical magic, namely, through various magic tricks in which children will participate, the titles of the stories that will be told afterwards will appear.

The second storyteller in the series is Laura Muñoz, an actress who graduated from the Buenos Aires' Dramatic Art Conservatory in 1996.  She participated in several plays in the Argentine capital and, in 2002, travelled to Spain, where in 2005 she founded her own theatre company called MundoMandarina, where she creates, produces and performs her own shows. She has also collaborated with the "Clowns in rebellion" and "Clowns without borders" expeditions. Currently, she writes stories and teaches storytelling, magic, clown and laughter therapy workshops.

Beni Trutmann Photo Competition turns twenty

The Office of Culture of the Consell de Formentera reports that the Beni Trutmann Photo Competition is now accepting submissions. Participants have until 12 April to hand or send in their snapshots.

Formentera's banner photographic event turns twenty this year, and to commemorate it, Vanessa Parellada, culture councillor, encouraged both islanders and participants from the previous two decades to attend the awards ceremony and exhibition opening on 2 May – a day she cast as "milestone event for lovers of local photography."

This competition pays tribute to Beni Trutmann, an extraordinary Swiss photographer who loved Formentera. He called the island home for 44 years, leaving more than 30,000 photographs that speak to Trutmann's love for the island and its nature. Urging islanders and visitors alike to participate, Councillor Parellada explained that "to spotlight a commitment to preservation, this contest pushes the many faces of Formentera –treasures of natural beauty, wildlife, vegetation, culture, heritage and human interaction– to the fore."

Colour, black and white and social justice
In the categories of colour, black and white and now familiar social justice, or foto denúncia, participants may submit up to three photographs. Prints may be square, digital, classic format or panoramic and will be eligible for the first, second and third prizes (€500, €300 and €200, respectively) in each category.

Submissions in these first three categories will be accepted in person at the Citizen Information Office (OAC) or by certified and/or administrative mail addressed to the Consell Insular de Formentera (Plaça de la Constitució, 1, 07860 Sant Francesc, Formentera) until 12 April 2023.

Junior category
This popular category is for young people between the ages of 12 and 18, who can participate via e-mail (concursfoto@conselldeformentera.cat), sending a maximum of three images, until 12 April. The first prize winner in this category will receive a compact digital camera, the second a digital instant camera and the third a sports camera.

The winning photographs will be incorporated into the Formentera Image and Sound Archive (Arxiu d'Imatge i So) and remain in possession of the Consell Insular de Formentera, which may use them for non-profit purposes in any form it deems appropriate (posters, graphics, Internet, etc.).

History
In twenty years, the competition has amassed a photographic treasure trove, with approximately 1,300 photographs in the archives and some 350 photographers participating. As the contest has grown, submissions have flowed in from various corners of mainland Spain and even other European countries.

Exhibition and awards ceremony
The contest will culminate with an exhibition of selected photographs that will be displayed in the Sala d'Exposicions "Ajuntament Vell" from Tuesday 2 May, when winners will receive their prizes. The exhibition will be on view until 13 May. For more information, consult the contest rules on the Consell de Formentera website.
