Art students of IES Marc Ferrer exhibit work at Sala d'Exposicions "Ajuntament Vell"

The Formentera Office of Culture is pleased to report that from 31 January to 5 February the Sala d'Exposicions "Ajuntament Vell" will host a exhibition of work from first and second year art students in non-compulsory secondary studies at IES Marc Ferrer. The batxillerat programme has been offered in art since 2020.

This year, five students will show some twenty pieces from the first quarter of Artistic Drawing and Techniques of Graphic and Plastic Expression. The pieces were fashioned on an array of media, such as canvas, wood, cardboard and paper. Students employed techniques in painting, mixed media and more, and incorporated collage, frottage, transfers, charcoal and engraving.

An assortment of themes are touched on in the exhibition, which stems from students' work on natural and artificial forms and represents their interpretation of local architectural heritage with varying degrees of iconocity.

The exhibition will open on Monday 31 January at 6.00pm. The exhibition will be on view at Sala d'Exposicions "Ajuntament Vell" from Tuesday to Saturday, 11.00am to 2.00pm and 6.00pm to 8.00pm.

Consell de Formentera meets 90% of international transparency indicators

The Formentera Office of Transparency is pleased to report that currently the island administration complies with ninety percent of Transparency International's eighty indicators. TI brings together civil sector, the private sector and governments, and is the only non-governmental organisation dedicated to combating corruption.

The Consell de Formentera maintains a transparency web portal that can also be accessed via the institutional website, www.conselldeformentera.cat. Depending on type, TI's indicators are updated weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually according to the organism's established criteria. This information relates to government actions, agreements, plenary sessions, e-minutes, government contracts, economic and financial data, town planning data, legislation, councillors' personal information, etc. A newly designed web form allows islanders to request public information in person at the Citizen Information Office (OAC) and online across the Virtual Citizen Information Office (OVAC). The process does not require identification by digital certificate, per transparency legislation.

Correction

Moreover, the Consell has asked the administrators of the Mapa inforparticipa website to correct details reported in a 16 January press release indicating that in a study of Balearic municipalities, Formentera had received a score of zero out of one hundred in transparency. The document did not report on the rest of the island councils.

In their reply, the portal's representatives stated that "the [Consell de Formentera] website is listed as not evaluated; not as scoring zero". Formentera's administration was "simply not evaluated, which is why it appears on the Mapa Infoparticipa graphic in grey. It was not evaluated because when the Balearic Islands were assessed it was insufficiently clear to us whether the www.conselldeformentera.cat website belonged to the City or Island Council [sic]". They added that Mapa Infoparticipa did not evaluate governments' transparency portals as the first option.

Mapa Infoparticipa have offered their advisory services to the Consell de Formentera, but the island administration oversees transparency work with its own resources and does not hire external companies for this purpose.

Owners of vacation property renters must renew authorizations

The Formentera Office of Tourism (Conselleria de Turisme, CT) reports that forms and documentation are now available to renew or extend authorisations for vacation holiday rental properties. In the last two years and due to the pandemic, all permits were extended two years, but now renewals and extensions must be processed for those authorisations that will soon expire.

Renewals can be processed online through the Virtual Citizen Information Office (OVAC) or in person at the Citizen Information Office (OAC). Inquiries can also be made on-site and over the phone, applications can be picked up at the CT, located at Carrer Pius Tur Mayans in Sant Francesc, as well as at the OAC.

"After two years of automatic extensions we are reactivating the renewals process", Alejandra Ferrer, Vice-President and Councillor of Tourism. She called it "a very important step to ensure compliance with the legality of tourist rentals". Ferrer also reported that "in parallel we are working on the 2022 inspection plan to review compliance with the Plan for Quality and detect illegal rentals that contribute to supply shortages for residential and temporary accommodation for workers".

According to the Regulation on commercialised tourist stays in local homes, the registration in the Tourism Registry of Formentera was valid for five years from presentation of the declaration of new rental activity. The period was extended for two more years on account of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, in January 2022, vacation rental registrations in the Formentera Tourism Registry have begun to expire and the owners will have to renew them again. They will also have to comply with the new Plan for Quality, which was also extended due to COVID-19.

foto 2022 escoletaThe Formentera Office of Education is pleased to report that from Monday 31 January to Friday 4 February, the administration of the Sant Ferran nursery, or escoleta, will oversee a special period of enrolment for children born in 2021.

The escoleta will accommodate seven more children, said Susana Labrador, Councillor of Education, who expressed satisfaction at being able "to offer more places to Formentera children and families who need it".

Registration: 31 January to 4 February, both inclusive

Enrolment can be completed online on the Virtual Citizen Information Office (OVAC) or by phoning the Sa Miranda escoleta at 971 32 34 15 between 9.30am and 2.30pm, Monday to Friday, to schedule an in-person appointment. On account of the public health situation, appointments are required. No inquiries or applications will be accepted after the established date.

Once applications are submitted, the admissions process will proceed as follows: The provisional list will be made public on 9 February, after which a period of claims will follow from 9 to 11 February. The definitive list of acceptees will be published on 16 February and enrolment will take place between 17 at 21 February. Children will be able to start attending in March.

The Sant Ferran escoleta opened its doors in September. Today it serves 27 one- to three-year-olds and employs 5 workers. Sa Miranda escoleta currently serves 82 children under three, 7 of whom are babies. Councillor Labrador voiced her hopes that the new period of enrolment would bring the centre's waiting list for babies to zero, as typically occurs with other age groups. She also pointed out that the Sant Ferran escoleta was designed to expand to adapt to growing enrolment.
