Saturday 2 October on Formentera (and a day later in the Ibizan town of Jésus), puppet fans can catch “Nube Nube”, a poetic play by Periferia Teatro about the idea of romantic love that we’re taught as young children. Inspired by the story of “The Little Mermaid”, the troupe humourously and tenderly remind us of everything we do to help others, to love and be loved; and how sometimes, love makes us forget who we are. Featuring a mixture of live-action acting and puppetry, the family-friendly production is appropriate for children aged four and up.

Still a newcomer on the scene, “Nube Nube” has already been honoured with Feten 2020’s Best Puppet Show award, the Golden Dragon Award for Best Children’s Production at the Lleida Fira de Teatre de Titelles 2021 and the Children's Jury Award for Best Production at the 33rd Festitíteres in Alacant (2020).

Formentera audiences can catch a 6.00pm showing of the production on Saturday 2 October in the Sala de Cultura (Cinema). Tickets can be purchased for €4 from tomorrow Friday 24 September at www.entradesformentera.cat, with free admission for the unemployed and underemployed freelancers. “Nube Nube” is the first show of the autumn ‘L'Illa a Escena’, which is organised by the Formentera Office of Culture. The performance at the Jesús Cultural Centre in the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu will take place Sunday 3 October, also at 6.00pm. Advance bookings can be made for €8 plus booking fee through the website www.festivalbarruguet.com, or for €10 at the box office an hour before the show.

Productions will be staged in accordance with public health protocols and in compliance with current regulations.

The troupe
Periferia Teatro have been working professionally with puppets, crafting and sharing stories, since 1989. Time has vindicated their efforts, for they have demonstrated that the art of puppetry isn’t just alive and kicking, but that it’s also one of the shortest routes to the soul of spectators — whether children or their adult chaperones.

Fortune has shined on Periferia Teatro in recent years, and the troupe has brought original productions like “Pingüin”, “Pocosueño”, “Guyi-Guyi”, “Huellas” and “Vuelapluma” to the top Spanish children’s theatre programmes, not to mention logged appearances in numerous international festivals. The company has also received numerous awards, as well as grants from the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM), the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), Instituto Cervantes and the Institute for Cultural Industries and the Arts (ICA) of Murcia, which have helped cement the company’s place on the performing arts scene and raise their profile.

Consell de Formentera

Consell de Formentera President Alejandra Ferrer and Vice-President Ana Juan met yesterday with the Colombian consul in the Balearic Islands, Rafael Guillermo Arismendy Jiménez. The consul came to introduce himself, seizing the occasion of a locally scheduled visit by the Colombian Mobile Consulate.

The Mobile Consulate will make regular visits to Formentera so that islanders of Colombian descent can perform formalities like passport requests, birth registration and more.

President Ferrer offered collaboration in everything Colombian citizens may need on Formentera. In fact, Formentera’s government is providing space for the Mobile Consulate, which set up yesterday in the conference room of the Formentera Day Centre.

In the Balearic Islands there are 25,000 people of Colombian descent, 13% of whom live on Formentera.
