The Consell de Formentera primary sector department reports that beginning Monday 14 October, islanders can register their young ones to participate in the children’s vegetable patch course. The classes are geared toward ages 4 to 12 and will be held Saturday mornings, from 26 October to 20 June. Signups will happen at the Citizen’s Information Office (OAC) and the office’s virtual platform (OVAC).
As primary sector councillor Josep Marí pointed out, the course, led by specialist Lorna Hernández, has two objectives at its core: “to foment earth-smart and traditional methods of working the land, and develop respect for classmates and the natural world”.
Workshops will play out at the children's vegetable patch, or Hort Infantil, located near Sa Tanca Vella chapel in Sant Francesc. Two groups will be formed: one for kids aged 4 to 7 that meets Saturdays from 10.00am to 11.45am, and another for children aged 8 to 12 from 12.15pm to 2.00pm. The classes are free.

Councillor of Culture Susana Labrador met today with the director general of inter-administration relations, Miquel Àngel Coll, to begin coordinating work on the events programme for the Balearic Islands Day (Dia de les Illes Balears) on 1 March. Part of an effort to make festivities reflective of diverse interests across the archipelago, recent years have seen the regional government encouraging island councils to take an active role in planning.
Consell de Formentera president and tourism councillor Alejandra Ferrer, together with Formentera’s councillor of environment Antonio J Sanz, welcomed attendees of the Posidonia Project Forum to the working groups organised for the occasion. With everyone from Formentera and Balearic government personnel to representatives of local businesses, civil society groups and NGOs, the groups will tackle a range of issues related to water, waste, plastics, mobility on land and at sea, the energy transition and posidonia seagrass.
From the conference room of the Centre de Dia, the Department of Patrimony-piloted Joan Marí Cardona Local Study Days (Jornades d’Estudis Locals) playing out this week are now officially in the home stretch. Before the final conference of the lecture series’ eleventh year tomorrow, the penultimate talk takes place tonight at 8.15pm, with Felip Cirer Costa. A professor of Catalan language and literature, Cirer will give a lecture on a project that he heads, the Encyclopaedia of Eivissa and Formentera.
Mobility chief Rafael González stood before crowds at the Trafic expo today in Madrid to talk about formentera.eco, the island’s system to restrict the flow of incoming vehicles. Attendees of the fair, which runs 8 to 11 October, will learn about safe and sustainable mobility.
