foto 2022xi buta la molaThe Formentera Office of Commerce is pleased to announce that, with the addition by Repsol, which distributes butane and propane on the island, of new distribution points on the island, Formentera now has four points of sale in the winter and five in summer, instead of the single distribution point that existed this summer. Also, the company has said that, at the behest of the Consell de Formentera plenary assembly, requests for home delivery have been computerised to make the service more efficient.

President Ana Juan has met with Repsol representatives on several occasions and had asked the Balearic offices of consumer affairs and industry to take the necessary steps to correct the deficiencies detected. She offered that "additional points of sale and computerised distribution should improve the service received by the residents of Formentera".

The points of sale are Comestibles Verdera (Carretera de Porto-salè), Supermercado Avenida (El Pilar de la Mola), Comestibles Sa Fadico (former Comestibles Tur, Carretera La Mola km 6.4) and Set Energía (Repsol butane distributor, Carretera des Ca Marí) and Supermercado Es Caló (summer only). The telephone number for orders is 900 321 900.

On International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Alejandra Robaina underscores work of cleaning staff with 'Informe de camarera'

The Formentera Office of Culture is pleased to announce that Monday 21 November at 7.00pm, the Canarian artist Alejandro Robaina Vera will pull back the curtain on his "Informe de camarera" exhibition in the "Ajuntament Vell" exhibition space. This display is part of the local programme, organised by Espai Dones and the Formentera Office of Equality, to commemorate International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Robaina has always maintained close ties with cleaning workers and, through his aunt, mother and cousins, who have worked as hotel cleaning staff, had first-hand knowledge of their conversations, labour struggles, joys and struggles.

The central axis of Robaina's exhibition an Excel data sheet built around day slips and offering insight into chambermaids' work in Canary Island resorts as far back as the seventies. In the accompanying photographic archive, the author has created thirteen series linked to this database and the work of cleaning staff.

According to the artist, the exhibition is also linked to the day known in Spain as "25N" (25 November): International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. "For example, it urges cleaning personnel to remember how they were treated in the seventies in the other Spanish archipelago. They were disrespected and often had to be accompanied for fear of gender violence".

"Informe de camarera" opens Monday 21 November at 7.00pm and can be visited at the Sala d'Exposicions "Ajuntament Vell" Monday to Saturday, 11.00am to 2.00pm and 6.00pm to 8.00pm, until 3 December. The space is closed Monday mornings, Sundays and holidays.
