June activities at the Casal de Joves

foto 2022vi cuina casalThe Formentera Office of Youth Services [Conselleria de Joventut, CdJF] is pleased to announce the activities planned for this June at the island's youth drop-in centre, Casal de Joves. Councillor Vanessa Parellada said that in addition to activities, "CdJF personnel support young people and assist them in whatever they need, whether that's studying, looking for work, sharing experiences or talking about issues that are important to them". "Our staff stay by young people's side at a time that is immensely important in the formation of their personalities and their transition to adulthood", she continued.

A film screening starts off the programme on Wednesday 1 June, with a two-week run of Wednesday night movies picking up two weeks later exploring the theme of refugees (15/22 June). On Friday 3 June, there will be a massage workshop with soft music to set a relaxing atmosphere. Then, Saturday 4 June comes with a perennial favourite: the Casal cooking workshop, where participants share and prepare healthy recipes.

On Wednesday 8 June, the gang will once again break out "Twister!", a game where young people have fun and explore their flexibility. On Friday 10 June, a table tennis tournament will take shape, and the winner will come away with a pizza. On Saturday 11 June, a henna workshop will offer youth the chance to experiment and unleash their imagination and creativity.

On Friday 17 June, stay flexible and build strength with an acrobatics workshop, another frequent feature on the Casal's monthly calendar. And for World Refugee Day on Saturday 18 June, La Nave Va will lead youth in "Trapped Between Two Realities" [Atrapades entre dues realitats], a workshop on refugees that is both participatory and educational. On Friday 24 June, all those interested can join in painting a new mural on the Casal's outside wall under the direction of Edgar Vilamajó, who has already overseen several murals for the Casal.

Formentera celebrates International Yoga Day with Verónica Blume

The Formentera Office of Tourism is pleased to announce that on Tuesday 21 June, model and yogi Verónica Blume will be on the island to help us celebrate International Yoga Day.

To mark the special day, the Consell de Formentera and Puro Bienestar have revived a one of a kind master class in La Savina port with Blume, an international leading light in the profession.

The United Nations has chosen this date to build awareness around the benefits of yoga, a holistic wellness discipline which engages the body in an integral, harmonious and balanced way while respecting natural cycles.

"The Way Back to You" promises to be a special, intimate and very personal exercise. There will be a consciousness-oriented master class in yoga, which organisers hope will push attendees to start, remember or resume that path that leads back to themselves.

The class is scheduled for 8.00pm, June 21, on the patio of the Fishermen's Guild [Confraria de Pescadors] in La Savina.

This event is charitable and tuned for sustainability, so proceeds will go to preserving posidonia seagrass. Registration costs €25. Space is limited and mats will be provided, but participants should bring warm clothing for the final relaxation exercise.

Affective-sexual training for years 5 and 6 and their families

From 6 to 8 June, the Formentera Office of Social Welfare will offer a course in affective-sexual training for pupils in primary years five and six and their families. Participants will learn the basics of maintaining respectful and healthy relationships –not only with others, but with themselves as well– and review the hormonal, emotional and physical changes typical of adolescence.

On the same days as the in-school workshops, another training course will offer parents resources to support and guide their teenage children and to address affective-sexual issues. Parents of pupils in years five and six at CEIP Sant Ferran are asked to attend on 6 June; parents in La Mola, on 7 June, and parents at CEIP Mestre Lluís Andreu, on 8 June. Workshops begin at 5.00pm and are held at each respective school.

The training will be led by Teresa Ramos, a social educator and sexologist who facilitates trainings in schools in the Balearic Islands.

Information push to ensure contract details are visible in rental cars parked in La Savina

foto 2022 zona blava vehicles lloguerThe Formentera Office of Mobility reports that a rental contract must be visible in all rental vehicles that are left in blue/green metred parking and overflow parking areas in La Savina between the months of May and October. Violators may be subject to fines. Today, to pre-empt parking problems in La Savina, blue zone parking attendants embarked on a push to raise awareness about this measure.

"Last summer unrented rental vehicles parked in La Savina saturated the area", explained Rafael González, Councillor of Mobility. "Now, with changes made to the ordinance and the rule change currently being worked out, rental vehicles may not be parked in La Savina unless the details of an active rental contract are left visible. The document must be signed by the company that owns the vehicle and a natural or legal third party", he added.

Local car-hire companies have received a form that must be filled out and left by drivers in a visible area in the front of the car when they park. In the days ahead, blue zone attendants will leave flyers on rental vehicles parked in La Savina reminding motorists that failure to comply with the measure could soon mean fines.

Last summer unrented rental vehicles parked in pay-to-park areas in La Savina were at the centre of 150 fines issued by Formentera Local Police. Under the modified ordinance, blue zone attendants will be able to issue fines too. "This regulatory change was communicated and agreed with the La Savina Residents' Association and car rental companies in response to parking shortages in the centre of La Savina last July and August", said Councillor González.
