Formentera unveils online portal and Covid travel test hotline

cartell 2021 infocovidThe president’s office of the Consell de Formentera is pleased to announce a new corner of the Consell de Formentera website dedicated to information on local testing options for travellers. “The island’s tourism sector brought it to our attention that many visitors and businesspeople lacked a source of information about Covid-19 testing for travellers on their way back to their countries and places of origin”, explained Ferrer, who is also Formentera’s tourism chief, before confiding, “It’s an information gap we were eager to fill.”

Included among the changes is a new sub-section in the Covid-19 section of www.cif.cat. “Infocovid: Testing for Travellers” not only highlights local establishments that have attested competence administering Covid-19 testing, it offers insight into a host of other topics like fees, services, appointment scheduling and more. To maximise the campaign’s reach, materials will also be translated into multiple languages on the Formentera Office of Tourism website.

Hotline
A new information hotline at 871 556 619 gives callers answers to some of the most frequently asked questions from visitors and islanders preparing to start or end their holidays. Additional licensed test sites may also call if they wish to be added to the list.

Ferrer insisted that the hotline, which she described as a “one-stop info shop”, would both “enhance the service Formentera provides its visitors” and “act as a guardrail for considerations like quality and logistics”.

Special negotiating body tapped to draft administration’s internal equality plan

The Formentera Department of Equality is pleased to announce that earlier today a special negotiating committee was tasked with drafting a plan to incorporate equality into the Consell’s organisational framework and foment employee training and awareness to integrate the gender perspective into municipal operations, plans and policies.

The commission will convene on three occasions and be formed by Councillor Vanessa Parellada and staffer Sofia Vergara from the FDE (the plan’s backing entity) as well as Councillor Paula Ferrer and staffer Vicent Ribas from the local administration’s human resources division, which will also play a key role in creation of the plan. Spokespeople from trade union groups will also be present to represent staff.

Stocktaking and action plan
The second gathering will feature a review of the current situation and the reality of gender equality within the Consell today. “This will give us a sense of our most pressing needs, which will help us identify priorities and measures to bake into the document”, asserted Councillor Parellada.

On the agenda as commission members convene for their third meeting will be presentation of the plan itself, which, as Parellada pointed out, will seek to “ensure compliance with the principles of equal opportunity and non-discrimination”. “The better our initial diagnosis, the better our shot at real equality in local government”, concluded Parellada.

Plans to draft the Internal Plan for Equality were first included Formentera’s 2019-2022 Equality Plan, as well as Balearic legislation on equality, and will be piloted by the consultancy group Coop4equality Projects for Social Innovation.

‘Poetic break’, a one-two punch of poetry and photography at Centre Gabrielet

cartell 2021 poetic breakOn Thursday 10 June, Centre Antoni Tur ‘Gabrielet’ welcomes Sandra Lorinquer and Muntsa Darné as the pair of artists pull back the curtain on a collaborative exhibition titled “Poetic break”. The show’s roots go back to May 2020. That’s when the creative duo began work on what, nearly a year later, looked like a book. But when Lorinquer, a poet, and Darné, a photographer, unveil their work’s most recent incarnation today, it is “Poetic break” the exhibition. In three languages, French (Lorinquer’s native tongue), English and Castilian Spanish, at the centre of the project are 24 poems which relate the thoughts and encounters that accompany years of travels and experiences. All the while, Darné’s 20 photographs offer interpretations of Lorinquer’s poems, adding a visual layer to the emotions inhabiting the text.

The show is on view 11.00am to 2.00pm and 5.00pm to 8.00pm, every day except Wednesdays and Sundays until 19 June.
