'The Power of Self-Transformation with Alessandra Oram': a master class to celebrate International Yoga Day

foto 2023vi fzenThe Office of Tourism of the Consell de Formentera, in collaboration with Puro Bienestar, is pleased to report that the island will celebrate International Yoga Day with a master class from Alessandra Oram on 21 June. Oram, a yoga instructor, specialises in Navakarana Vinyāsa, with which she will offer "a unique journey of transformation."

"The Power of Self-Transformation with Alessandra Oram" will be held on the terrace of the Fishermen's Guild (Confraria de Pescadors) in the port of La Savina, 21 June at 7.30pm. Interested parties can consult all the information and register on https://formenterazen.es/dia-internacional-del-yoga/.

This is a charitable initiative: all proceeds from the symbolic registration fee of €10 will go to Save Posidonia Project, a pioneering effort to promote sustainable tourism on Formentera and safeguard posidonia seagrass through several lines of action.

Alessandra Oram is the first instructor to practise Navakarana Vinyāsa in Spain and one of the few professionals to practise it in Europe. This new and dynamic form of yoga constitutes a comforting practice adapted to all levels, and allows followers to gain awareness, strength and flexibility.

This limited-capacity event is backed by the Office of Tourism of the Consell de Formentera and Puro Bienestar, and benefits from the collaboration of Trasmapi and Port Authority of the Balearic Islands.

Consell blocks two local companies from giving formentera.eco vehicle authorisations to international firm

foto 2023vi for ecoThe Office of Mobility of the Consell de Formentera has blocked a bid by two local car rental companies to transfer clearances for 40 cars and 88 motorcycles to an international company. For the 2023 enforcement period of formentera.eco (1 June to 30 September), one company had requested 40 authorisations for passenger cars and the other 88 authorisations for motorcycles. The requests were denied because formentera.eco rules do not allow for authorisations to be transferred between companies.

Coastal authority OKs concession for eight beach bars and two sailing schools on Formentera coast

Today the Governing Board of the Consell de Formentera made public the resolution of the Ministry for Ecological Transition's Directorate General of the Coast and Sea granting concession titles to use 907 square metres of maritime-terrestrial public domain for beach service facilities on Formentera.

The concessions are granted for ten years, extendable up to five years to enable more efficient management of these services.

The coastal authority accepted comments submitted by the Consell urging that all the beach bars or "kiosks" be allowed to continue operating under the same conditions and be taken down only one month a year in winter. The authority thus accepted a take-down period from 15 January to 15 February as well as the alternative locations which had been proposed for the two kiosks on Platja de Migjorn.

The approval covers eight kiosks with terrace and toilets and two sailing schools, in addition to other elements associated with the lifeguard service.

The response from the coastal authority sets the deadlines and guarantees that the kiosk service can be provided this summer.

Article 29.3 of the Law of Consells 4/2022 bars acting local cabinets from awarding contracts and concessions in excess of €100,000. Awards will therefore be determined once the new government is formed.

Local artists will once again ignite Formentera's summer nights with live music

Today the Office of Culture of the Consell de Formentera presented the summer 2023 programme of Music in the Squares (Música a les Places). Styles like world music, Latin music, blues, soul, rock, heavy metal and jazz will once again electrify the air in the squares of Sant Ferran, Es Pujols and Sant Francesc and La Savina's waterfront promenade.

As Vanessa Parellada, acting culture councillor, explained, "just as we've done before, we'll liven up the summer nights by bringing the music of local artists to residents and visitors. Four times a week varying public spaces on the island will become the perfect backdrop for open-air enjoyment".

La Savina
Mondays in La Savina are all about Mondays at the Port (Dilluns al Port). From 10.00pm, 19 June to 11 September, live musical performances will set the promenade abuzz.

Es Pujols
Plaça d'Europa in Es Pujols will host World Music, with an appearance from one of the series' veterans: Antena Libre. Performances will start at 10.00pm every Thursday, 15 June to 26 October, pausing in August.

Sant Ferran
Fridays from 10.00pm, 16 June to 22 September, Plaça de l'Església in Sant Ferran, too, will welcome the return of a Formentera summer classic: Live Music (Música en Viu). All summer long, the Formentera Musical Association will take the lead livening up this square.

Sant Francesc
Saturdays from 10.00pm in the Plaça de la Constitució, the legendary Jazz in the Square (Jazz a la Plaça) will see concerts from Formentera's favourite jazz band. Shows are scheduled every Saturday 17 June to 23 September (except for the week of 16-23 July, when the performance happens on Sunday, and Saturday 5 August, when the series takes a break).

Collaborations
This musical initiative, fruit of an agreement between the Consell de Formentera and Estrella Galicia, benefits from the collaboration of Jazz & Co, Formentera Musical Association, Antena Libre, Residents' Association of La Savina and Port Authority of the Balearic Islands.
