Marnaton hits Formentera tomorrow

marnaton-2018-12The Formentera Council office of sport reports that the second Marnaton Formentera (Marnaton eDreams Formentera by Balèaria) will take place tomorrow, Saturday May 18. Approximately five hundred swimmers (almost two hundred more than last year) will compete in two different modules, 4K and 11K. Participants in the 11K circuit (“Volta a l'illa d'Espalmador”) will set out at 9.10am and their counterparts in the 4K circuit (“Volta a es Pas”) are scheduled to set out 10.00am. Both groups start and finish in ses Illetes, and onlookers will have space available at es Ministre.

Formentera Raid
Contenders will take part today and tomorrow in Raid Formentera, a three-part event that will see swimmer-kayaker pairs cover distances of between 6.5 and 17 kilometres as they circle the island on routes specially tailored to weather conditions.

The sporting event is part of Discover Formentera in May, a Council-backed push to stir up interest in visiting the island before and after the traditional summer season. The campaign covers the Marnaton as well, an eDreams-sponsored event with versions in Begur (June 9), Sant Feliu de Guíxols (June 29) and Cadaqués (September 14).

As with other events put on by the Formentera Council, earth smart education plays an important role, and participants are invited to collaborate in Save Posidonia Project. Organisers have pledged zero environmental impact on the ses Salines reserve.
