New trail for birdwatchers on Camí des Brolls

foto 2020 ruta es Brolls 2The Formentera Department of Tourism unveiled a new ornithological circuit on the country road, Camí des Brolls, that cuts across the area of Es Brolls. Newly erected round the perimeter of Estany Pudent are eight display panels that highlight the area’s environmental particularities, its history in terms of salt extraction and the birds and other wildlife which call the humid stretch of land home. In addition, from 15 June a birdwatchers’ observation screen will go up—a change that was placed on hold due to the fact nearby birds are currently nesting.

The ornithological route runs 4.3K (one way) and can be done on foot (1h 20 minutes) or bicycle (20 minutes). The €5,811 project, an initiative of Strategic Tourism Sectors (Segments Estratègics Turístics), was funded by the Sustainable Tourism Tax. Two more trails are expected to follow: one detailing 14 nearby heritage sites and another, a fitness trail for runners starting in Llevant and snaking around Estany Pudent.

Tourism marketing chief Carlos Bernús traced the origins of all three projects to requests from the island’s tourism sector, and said the aim of the trails was to “offer visitors new experiences in nature, heritage, culture and sport that locals can enjoy too”.
