Six first plots chosen for untilled land use project, Fons de Terres

cases Ferreres 1Fons de Terres, an effort launched by the Formentera Council and local farmers' cooperative to revitalise agricultural activity and restore local farmland landscapes, took another step forward yesterday, 16 April, when a special commission for the project met to oversee the selection of the first plots to be restored under the programme.

Five of the six lots are privately-owned; two located in Punta Prima and three in Porto Salé while a sixth is the farmland segment of the Ca ses Ferreres in La Mola. The properties constitute 77,920 square metres of land in total.

Coop-director Carles Marí announced the next stage in the process – slated for next Monday of next week – would include signing of cession-and-use agreements between landowners and the Cooperativa del Camp. Once that phase of the project is concluded the Cooperativa has indicated that it will clear brush on the plots and proceed to cultivation of the terrain.
