Expanded hours have been announced as well: Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November from 9.00am to 2.00pm and 4.00pm to 9.00pm. Standard 9.00am to 6.30pm hours will be observed the days immediately before and after the holiday.

Department chief Rafael Ramírez said the measures were about ensuring the holiday unfolds as usual and safely. To make sure that happens, Ramírez indicated that capacity would be monitored and one-way circuits established in the cemetery. “It’s important islanders are able to pay tribute to their families during these traditional days of cemetery visits”, the conseller insisted.

The cemetery’s maximum capacity has been set at 250 so visitors can keep a safe 1.5 metre berth from one another. Visitors will be asked to stagger entry and exit and the process will be carried out in an orderly fashion, again, respecting one-way circuits. Supervision of access points will be handled by members of civil protection, Consell staff and officers of Formentera Local Police.

Ramírez encouraged everyone who could to schedule early visits to the cemetery to avoid crowding. Capacity at the traditional Mass in the cemetery on 2 November will be limited to fifty people. The premises will be disinfected frequently and public health measures like physical distancing, mandatory masks and hand washing will be enforced.
