Sports centre café to reopen next week

PoliesportiuEarlier today the Formentera Council made official the concessions contract for he Antoni Blanc sports centre bar-café. The same concessionaire will also oversee maintenance of the centre's snack and non-alcoholic beverage vending machines. The contract establishes an initial operating period of four years but includes the possibility of a two-year extension if both the Council and the contract-holder agree. The operator of the café must pay 7,000€ annually to the Council for use of the space.

The previous concessionaire rescinded on operating duties 15 June of last year citing unprofitability. CiF councillor of sport Jordi Vidal apologised to the sports centre's users for the time the café's doors had been shut. He noted the delay had been caused by «a need to respect the administrative protocol of the bidding process» and assured, «we know how important this service is for people». He indicated the new tenant would begin operations next week.

Children's area and satellite TV
The new operator estimates the café's weekday opening hours will be 8:30 am to 12 midnight. According to the contract, on event days the café must be open for service at least thirty minutes before play starts and an hour after it ends. In addition to creating a children's play area and providing WiFi and satellite television, the recipient of the new contract has committed to serving a different special dish (with drink and pudding) every day. The bar-café is located in a 100-square-metre space on the first floor of the Antoni Blanc sports centre with a 40-sq-m terrace space to one side. The vending machines are located in the café's common areas.
