‘Ajuntament Vell’ welcomes Julie Aubrun’s ‘Mi ciudadela’

cartell 2021 julie aubrunThe Formentera Department of Culture reports that Monday 31 May at 6.00pm, the “Ajuntament Vell” gallery will host the opening of Julie Aubrun’s “Mi ciudadela”. Described by the artist as “a dialogue between dance and painting”, the exhibition has at its core the metaphor of the human body as “citadel” and its immanent energies, soldiers labouring in its defence. Graphically, Aubrun plays with realism and the abstract, emptiness and textures, to symbolise transparency and the invisible. Her paintings give vent to the delicacy of bodies which are both extremely fragile and an impassable wall.

A native of Nancy (France), Julie Aubrun is an author and illustrator. She studied art and visual communication in Paris. She has lived on Formentera since 2012, and her work is entirely inspired by the island.

The exhibition’s nineteen works in mixed media on paper can be seen at the “Ajuntament Vell” from 1 to 12 June 2021, Monday to Saturday from 11.00am to 2.00pm and 6.00pm to 8.00pm (the gallery closes Sundays and Monday mornings).
