Andrés Coll: special guest at Sant Jaume-edition of Jazz a la Plaça

The Formentera Office of Culture is pleased to announce that from 10.00pm on the feast day of Sant Jaume, Saturday 23 July, the crowd at Jazz in the Square (Jazz a la Plaça) will be treated to a special guest. As every Saturday, Formentera's most endearing jazz outfit will be on hand to liven things up in Plaça de la Constitució in Sant Francesc, but this time, Eivissa-native Andrés Coll, will help.

A young multi-instrumentalist, versatile vibraphonist and member of a folk group on Eivissa since his childhood, Coll is not only knowledgeable about the roots of music in the Pine Islands, he is also a performer, composer and researcher whose areas of interest encompass Bach, Bartók, contemporary, jazz and free improvisation.

Coll's compositions transmit his particular vision of the Mediterranean. This year, he has released two albums: Natural research, a contemporary music project with pianist Joachim Kühn, and Live in Ibiza, an album recorded after a concert with violinist Mateusz Smoczynski and drummer and percussionist Ramón López at the Can Jeroni Cultural Centre in Sant Josep. Together with musician Majid Bekkas, Smoczynski, López and Coll make up the Andrés Coll Project, which the frontman says "unpacks the folk music of our cultures with avant-garde spirit and free improvisation".
