Public transport free for riders with disabilities, dependents, companions and minors

cartell 2021 transport public gratuitThe Formentera Department of Mobility reports that from 4 June rides on public buses will be free for the following residents and visitors:

- Riders under 18
- Riders with disabilities/dependents and their companions.

Mobility chief Rafael González voiced his satisfaction at launching an initiative which, for one, aims to “promote public transport and sustainable mobility so young islanders can form the lasting habit of using public transport and understand its advantages”. “It’s also about facilitating autonomy and mobility for care-dependent riders and riders with disabilities and their companions”, said González, who traced the origins of the initiative to a petition made to the Consell d’Entitats by the Pau Mayans Association for the Integration of People with ASD.

Free, no-hassle service
Riders who wish to benefit from free transport must provide certain documentation. Minors must supply a photo ID or passport, while individuals with disabilities, care-dependent riders and their companions must provide documentation accrediting their degree of disability or, alternately, a certificate attesting disability or care-dependency. “The goal was to make accessing the free service easy, which is why there’s no paperwork: an ID card or other proof of disability or care-dependency are all that’s required to access the service”, explained Gonzalez.

formentera.eco 2021
Free rides are just one of many measures included in the 2021 formentera.eco plan for sustainable mobility. In the words of the mobility chief, “It’s one more step down the path to sustainable mobility that the Consell de Formentera has been on for years”.
