Formentera Council and ACAF sign concerted action agreement regarding Ràdio Illa content production

conveni-acafThis morning the Formentera Island Council and the Associació Cultural Audiovisual de Formentera (ACAF) signed plans for a concerted action, establishing both the terms of content production for Ràdio Illa, Formentera's local radio station, as well as supervision of day-to-day affairs and remuneration for the provision of these services. Unchanged from last year's figure, the concerted action plan establishes the amount to be received by the ACAF for content production at 33,000€.

The concerted action plan stipulates that in 2014 the ACAF control both production of a daily news magazine (De Far a Far) and coordination of the volunteers that assure the station's daily programming.

The concerted action amounts to a formula of public-private collaboration to ensure radio services. Council president Jaume Ferrer stated he was “very satisfied with the state of current operations at Ràdio Illa” and commented that “in the space of a few short years, the station has made leaps and bounds in terms of quality improvements.”

ACAF president Paco Pérez declared that the association's objective was “to continue with the kind of quality improvements that are making Ràdio Illa the voice of Formentera.” The ACAF's goal for Ràdio Illa is “to be a hometown radio that informs and accompanies Formentera residents both here and away from the island.”

Pérez avowed: “We know it's a difficult job. It's a job that requires real effort and contributions that are both personal and, in the case of the Council, economic. However, we are comforted by an ever-growing audience.”

Pérez went on to give special thanks to the ACAF staff: “Toni Ruiz, the coordinator who has given Ràdio Illa the speed of a cruise ship; Pepo, the voice and soul of the radio; Ana Mateos and Susana Adelantado, who do production work of unbelievable quality; and, León Convalia. Although León is an employee of the Council, he can't be forgotten; more than work, he performs magic.” Pérez also recognised the “guests and collaborators” that make the Ràdio Illa what it is.

Sònia Cardona, councillor of Culture, declared that “as time goes by, the local station here has more and more of its own resources, but the collaboration of the Council is indispensable to guaranteeing its continued success.” Cardona applauded Ràdio Illa for its respect of “laws, plurality of opinions, and the continued representation of each of the island's political groups.” She also added, “And the station's programming can't be beat.”

The regulatory basis of the concerted action was proposed at the June plenary session of the Council.
