Formentera has 6 master craftsmen and 26 people with Artisan License

Artesans de Formentera amb la Consellera de Cultura i PatrimoniSince 2007, Formentera Island Council has promoted the collection of 16 licenses of craftsmanship among the artisanal sector of the island.

The Conseller for Education and Culture of Formentera, Sonia Cardona, has delivered the approved licenses this morning for artisan crafts living in Formentera, through the Department of Commerce, Industry and Energy of the Govern Balear. Until today, Formentera only had 6 master craftsmen (5 of them craftsmen and 1 beekeeper), and thanks to the official call to obtain the accreditation craft, 10 people have received the letter during this year in the craftsman patterns of jewelry, ceramics, footwear, glassware, goldwork, painting, meat or the manufacture of dolls.

At the last Committee of Crafts June 28, 2010, eleven bodies were presented to the Balearic Government to enter the examination as a craftsman, approved in October, so Formentera has 26 craft persons with official accreditation in the various ways mentioned above.

The importance of the artisan license is basic to incorporate the artisans in future artisan markets, as well as continued as they currently do. Each year are more the numerous requests for a selling authorization in the markets of the island. It is therefore necessary that the craftsmen of Formentera will update their cards or who do not have it, follow the procedures for requesting it.

Craftsman License opens the way to attend craft fairs and national and international markets,and is a prerequisite for a booth at many of these events.

The Craft Advisory Commission in Formentera soon will assume the applications and reviews from the Consell Insular de Formentera, given the assumption of all powers in Handraft. This measure will streamline the procedures for obtaining this license.

Indeed, handcraft mede in Formentera establishes in many of its manifestations, the cultural expression of their own history, being a clear testimony of the customs and traditions for the formation of the ethnographic heritage of a people and the historical and cultural circumstances that have contributed to the artisan sector come to play an important role in the life of Formentera.

It is therefore necessary to recognize handcrafts its value as a source of employment, cultural and tourism resource that has a great potential, and release all those events of handmade with traditional interest or roots on the island.

The Consell of Formentera has taken strong steps in promoting an of official accreditation licenses, from 10 licenses to 26 in the last two years. Currently, 7 people are waiting to be examined shortly to obtain the Craftsmen license.
