Formentera Council and Baleària sign collaborative accord for transport during Festa Intercultural

conveni baleariaThe Formentera Council and the maritime transport company Baleària have signed a collaborative economic agreement for the provision of transportation during the island's Multicultural Day – known locally as la Festa Intercultural. Despite the festival's April start – it was held last 6 April – the collaboration was not officially made formal until today.

Formentera Council president, Jaume Ferrer; councilor of Social Welfare, Dolores Fernández Tamargo; and Baleària's delegate for Eivissa-Formentera, Joan Serra, signed the accord stipulating the exact amount of assistance to be provided by the Baleària company for the Festa Intercultural – help valued at 1,400€.

President Ferrer expressed his gratitude for the accord, stating that the collaborative relationship “has been in place since 2011 and has steadily grown. Last year Baleària's assistance was valued at 1,300€.”

Councillor Fernández explained that thanks to the pact – which facilitates transportation for the members of participating musical groups and their material – “the Council is able to have a higher quality event without incurring higher costs.”

For his part, Baleària representative Serra explained that “we have collaborated with the Council for four years now, especially on the Festa Intercultural. For us it is extremely important to bring together people from different parts of the world; to unite territories and transport people of all religions, beliefs and origins. The Festa Intercultural is but one example of this.”
