The effect of weather on the daily lives of Formentera

Last Friday, September 24, took place the fourth conference scheduled in the II cycle of conferences at the Open University for Seniors (UOM) in Formentera, a joint initiative between the Social Welfare Area of Formentera and the University of the Balearic Islands.

Mr. Juan B. Costa, Captain of the Merchant Marine, was asked to explain "The effect of weather on the daily lives of Formentera". The conference began with a brief notions on meteorology (air mass, cold front and warm front, history of disturbances, etc. ..) through data and more specific effects on Formentera (fishing, shipping and agriculture) and ending with Formentera popular proverbs and spectacular images of weather.

The next conference will take place on October 22 at 18:00 pm in the Club of retired Sant Francesc. The theme will be the culture through festivals and the speaker will be Biel Mayoral, professor of the UIB.
