Improvements to Es Pujols reservoir ensure water supply for Es Pujols and Sa Roqueta

The Formentera Island Council and Aqualia, concessionary-recipient of the island's water supply management contracts, have now completed the remodel on one of the compartments of the Es Pujols reservoir, which supplies the areas of Es Pujols and Sa Roqueta with water.

The reservoir, consisting of two compartments and with a total capacity of 22,000 m3, was built in 1980 on calcareous rock, meaning that it is more than 50% composed of limestone. Through the years this presented problems related to the structure's watertightness. The improvement project consisted in ensuring a proper impermeabilisation of the reservoir, as well as secondary improvements to the setting of concrete and to the reservoir access system.

Upon completion of the project, Aqualia carried out a cleaning and disinfection of the facilities, a stipulation of the Control and Management Plan for the water supply, and one that brought the project in compliance with the health regulations for human water consumption.

These moves will set Formentera in stead to take on the 2013 tourist season certain of its provision of the necessary volume of water to the Es Pujols and Sa Roqueta urban centres.

The total cost of the construction project was 139,414.55€ and was charged to the investment reserve fund established by the contract between Aqualia and the Formentera Island Council.
