Consell activates prevention protocol in response to covid-19 case at Escola de Vela

Following on news that an asymptomatic student at the municipal sailing school tested positive for covid-19, the Consell de Formentera is working with the division of the Eivissa-Formentera Department of Health in charge of covid-19 case coordination to implement a public health protocol-informed prevention strategy.

The protocols were activated Saturday after the Escola de Vela received word of the news from the patient’s family. Calls to other students’ families have been going out since this weekend to inform them of the individual’s positive test results and explaining that the sailing school would be closed this week to prevent further spread. PCR testing is being done among the patient’s close contacts and Escola de Vela instructors.

Sports consellera Paula Ferrer reassured families of Escola de Vela students and indicated that health department protocol were being followed. She pointed out that closure of the school was aimed at stemming further spread whilst other individuals’ tests were being processed. Before classes at the school were suspended preventive measures like social distancing and mandatory masks had been in place, in addition to daily disinfecting of the facilities and gear.
