23–25 Oct., it’s the return of Formentera’s BTT Volta Cicloturista and BTT La Mola

foto 2020 presentacio BTT La MolaThe Consell de Formentera announced details today about the BTT Volta Cicloturista Formentera, a non-competitive mountain-biking ride organised by the Formentera Department of Sport in association with Unisport Consulting and GE Espalmador that will see participants touring the island in three stages on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of October.

The historic Volta route remains unchanged, covering 97.5K and netting a total elevation gain of one thousand metres. On Sunday 25 October interested mountain-bikers have the option as in years past to participate in BTT La Mola—a 24K competitive ride with start and finish in El Pilar de la Mola and a net altitude gain of 800 metres. The ride, which turns 25 this year, is also a qualifying trial for the BTT Campionat Pitiús. Participants can alternatively opt for a secondary, non-competitive route following some segments of the competitive circuit.

Alluding to other sporting fixtures canceled on account of the pandemic, sport consellera Paula Ferrer told media reps at the press conference she was “satisfied at finally being able to host programming”, adding, “We’re confident that little by little sports on the island will return to normal”. She also underscored pains taken by Unisport, GE Espalmador and staffers in the Formentera sports department: “They’ve been working overtime in recent weeks to get this event off the ground whilst making sure all the boxes are ticked in terms of sanitary protocol”.

Among the other faces at the presentation were Unisport director Manuel Hernández; GE Espalmador spokesman Jesús Ferrer, and Alex Marí, head of marketing at sponsoring-firm Trasmapi.

The first stage of the ride —a 29.5K circuit starting and finishing in Sant Francesc— will begin at 4.00pm on Friday 23 October. The second —a 39.5K loop with start/finish in La Savina— begins at 10.00am, Saturday. And the final (non-competitive alternate) route starts at 11.00am in La Mola.

Open registration ends 23 October and can be completed on www.elitechip.com.
