Survey attempts to suss out the realities of life for Formentera's LGTBI community

The Formentera Office of Equality is surveying islanders in a bid to get at the reality of life for LGTBI individuals on the island. The survey is one of multiple research instruments being deployed to develop the LGTBI Equality Plan (Pla d'Igualtat LGTBI, PdIL). Ana Juan, President and Councillor of Equality, encouraged people of the island "to participate in the survey and help ensure the PdIL is realistic". The survey is available in Catalan and here in Spanish.

In October a steering group of regular islanders formed to help crowdsource the evaluation of how things are for Formentera's LGTBI community and suggest appropriate measures, actions and policies. A consultant from Interferences has been brought in to draft the PdIL.

Developing the PdIL successfully will require that a range of actors, government agencies, community groups and ordinary people share their expertise in preventing, rectifying and eliminating discrimination in the public and private spheres to create the conditions for real and effective equality of the local LGTBI community.

The steering group is open to everyone, LGTBI community members or not. Interested parties should send an email to igualtat@conselldeformentera.cat.
