Formentera celebrates Sant Jordi with book stands, activities for children and youth and a music recital

Today the Formentera Office of Culture and Education presented the activities programme for Diada de Sant Jordi 2022. Susana Labrador, Councillor of Culture and Education, explained, "We have organised a very complete programme of activities to celebrate Sant Jordi", she said, highlighting plans for "the traditional stands with books for sale, but also various activities for children and young people and a flute and piano performance". She added that the year's Sant Jordi programme would by "rounded out by book presentations, more children's entertainment and a made-for-kids exhibition".

Diada de Sant Jordi

From 10.00am to 1.00pm on Saturday 23 April, the Diada de Sant Jordi, Sant Francesc's Plaça de la Constitució will welcome the classic stands where islanders can find books to buy and exchange. This event takes place with the collaboration of the Formentera chapter of Obra Cultural Balear and local libraries.

Visitors at the stands will find bookmarks with sayings from the Valencian writer Joan Fuster. This Balearic Government initiative commemorates the declaration of 2022 as Joan Fuster Year, an event that is promoted by the Generalitat Valenciana and Generalitat de Catalunya and which marks the centenary of Fuster's birth.

One of the book stands will also have the fourth issue of the revisited local fanzine ADN. The newest issue continues the mission of creating a platform of expression for Balearic talent and its fans.

As part of Sant Jordi celebrations, from 11.30am, author Elisabet Fàbregas will be on hand for a presentation of her children's book L'euga negra i el pou de n'Aubarqueta as well as a reading.

Immediately after, at 12 noon, the illustrator Justin Hindley will give a children's workshop on illustrating the characteristic flora and fauna of the Pine Islands.

Later, at 5.30pm, the Casal de Joves will host a Sant Jordi workshop.

Sant Jordi Concert
