Marià Villangómez Library welcomes return of 'Llegeix i gaudeix' book club

The Office of Culture is pleased to announce that at 7.30pm, Tuesday 28 February, Marià Villangómez Library will host the first session of "Llegeix i gaudeix" (Read and Revel), a book club led by Lluís Ferrer, current coordinator of the Santa Eulària Library club.

Participants in a "club de lectura" read the same book, but each at home. The last Tuesday of February, March and April the club will gather at the library to discuss what they have read.

For the first session, Ferrer proposes Ian McEwan's Machines Like Me, a novel set in an alternate, dystopian version of 1980s London in which the United Kingdom lost the Falklands War and scientist was not driven to suicide tormented by the fallout from his 1950s trial for being gay. In fact, Turing is remarkably active and dedicated to developing artificial intelligence, a field in which he has achieved an important milestone: the first synthetic human beings, prototypes he calls Adam and Eve.

The library has ten copies of the book available on loan to Llegeix i gaudeix participants. To register, send an email to biblioteca@conselldeformentera.cat and stop by the library to pick up a copy of the book.
