FOGAIBA says 74 young people received funding as part of 2020 offer
The Agrarian and Fishing Guarantee Fund, a division of the Balearic Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and Food (Conselleria d'Agricultura, Pesca i Alimentació/CAPA), has announced that €3.5 million in aid will be unlocked for young farmers in 2021. Applications will be accepted from 27 October to 30 November 2021. In an separate announcement, the Agrarian and Fishing Guarantee Fund (FOGAIBA for its initials in Catalan) noted that €3 million were paid out to young people in 2020. All told 74 applicants were deemed eligible for the assistance. Between 2016 and 2020, a total of 688 young workers took jobs the primary sector.
The five-year period starting in 2016 saw the disbursement of €22 million in related funding. Initial forecasts put funding for the period at €10.9 million. The decision by the Balearic government to increase the aid is a clear sign of the commitment within CAPA to help young people find jobs in the field.
To be eligible, applicants must be between 18 and 41 on the date of their application, and present a business plan envisaging at least €12,000 in yearly agricultural earnings within five years after aid is disbursed.
The aid seeks to rejuvenate the active population of workers by fostering a generational passing-down of tradition that enhances the competitiveness and dynamism of the agricultural industry in the Balearics.
