Minute of silence to condemn another life lost to gender violence

At noon today in the doorsteps of the Formentera Council (CiF), a moment of silence was observed to grieve the loss of life of a woman in the Mallorca town of Port de Pollença. The woman died yesterday, a victim of gender violence. On hand were CiF president Jaume Ferrer, the Govern Balear's minister of the president's office, Pilar Costa, councillors from the ruling and opposition parties of the Council and the chairwoman of institutional, labour and resident relations on the island. The action was aimed at condemning the woman's senseless death. She is the third fatal victim of gender violence in the Balearics this year. 

Drawing to pick election day assistants

A special plenary meeting was convened today with a drawing to determine the individuals who will staff the voting tables at next June 26's general elections. The final list can be viewed in the bulletin board section of the Formentera Council website.

Request to halt landing move under review

foto consell premsaThe highest court in the Balearic Islands, the TSJB (for Tribunal Superior de Justícia de les Illes Balears), will today begin review of the Formentera Council's administrative appeal against the project to relocate the Formentera ferry landing in the Eivissa port. The court has given the Balearic port authority until June 6 to present observations regarding the Council's request for a “cautionary suspension” of the plans to relocate the landing.

May 18 last, the Council issued the request —an appeal to defend the rights of Formentera residents— which had the support of all the Formentera political parties. The administration has also contacted the president of the Govern Balear in Palma in order to facilitate dialogue on the matter.

Council meets with Balearic veterinarians' college

Foto reunio collegi veterinarisBartomeu Escandell, the councillor of the president's office of the Formentera Council, met today with Ramón García, president of the college of veterinarians of the Balearic Islands. Escandell described the day's gathering as the first contact in what would hopefully lead to cooperation between the two groups. The goal behind the partnership, said Escandell, is to push for animal welfare and, in so doing, for public health in general. The councillor also spoke to the veterinarians about Formentera's project to revive the island's farming sector. 

Filing taxes made easy on Formentera

Oficina ATB i CadastreIn a statement issued today, the Formentera Council’s presidential office announced that from May 11, a staff member from the Balearic Islands tax office will be available on the island to help residents file their easy-file tax claims here on the island. By calling 971 76 76 76, residents can request an appointment with the tax office representative for assistance filing their 2015 declaration. The office is open from 9.30am to 2.00pm and again from 3.00 to 6.30pm, on carrer Eivissa, number 9, May 11 through June 30.
