Culture area of Formentera Island Council announces the Beni Trutmann Photography Contest in order to acquire a commitment to nature and environmental protection. With this annual photography contest that bears his name, Formentera Island Council, aims to keep the memory alive. Those who choose to be submitted to this contest are facing the challenge of approaching the work and example taht Beni Trutmann left to future generations.
Biography:
Werner Karl Thomas Trutmann, known by all with the name of Beni, was born on November 26, 1935 in Locarno, Switzerland. He studied at the School of Arts in Zurich, where he revealed his passion for photography. At 22 he traveled to Paris to work as assistant to the photographer Harry Meerson, and two years later become independent as a professional photographer. Visited Formentera in 1958, where he discovered a passion of his life.
We can divide his career into two periods: the era of advertising, which from 1965 to 1984, period of maturity and humanism, between 1985 and 1995.
Beni Trutmann and Formentera:
Madly in love with this island, the city feels, he continued to photograph for 44 years leaving a legacy of more than 30,000 photographs. To him it was important to preserve cultural heritage for future generations, was concerned about urban change, so he put his talents to the GOB environmental association. His photographic works supported the exhibition "Beauty and the destruction of an island" organized in Formentera.
Werner Karl died at home in her Mola on 28 April 2002.
