Island’s cultural agenda gets new look and operating system

foto 2020 renov agendaFormenFour years after the launch of Agenda Formentera (www.agendaformentera.cat), the Consell de Formentera announces that the island’s digital calendar has just got a makeover. From today, the agenda will sport a new look for its front page and a new operating system tuned for improved updating and increasingly sleek content. The site provides details about every event the Consell de Formentera organises, giving islanders and tourists alike front-row access to local programming.

Heading the revamped digital agenda is a fresh, vibrant image that introduces the site and offers visitors a welcoming hand. A downward scroll takes visitors to a carrousel of upcoming events, followed by an aesthetically enhanced Formentera calendar with a day-by-day breakdown of the month ahead. There is also a new function enabling visitors to download promotional graphics. Visitors will additionally encounter a new area in the header dedicated to insight about markets and heritage sites. Agenda Formentera is available in three languages: Catalan, Spanish and English.

New weekly briefing
The online agenda isn’t the only place visitors will notice changes. Cultura Informa, too, is getting a fresh format, with news and information packaged as a weekly digest. (Visit www.agendaformentera.cat to register.) The first briefing appeared today in subscribers’ inboxes, and with it, the scoop on all the activities scheduled for the week ahead on Formentera.

Culture consellera Susana Labrador described the renovation as about “keeping pace in changing times and revamping the way we keep people in the know about the many activities which the Consell hosts and co-sponsors”. She also announced the disappearance of the monthly paper agenda, promising it would “clear the way for strides toward sustainability”.

Visitors to Agenda Formentera’s Facebook page will also be greeted by a new profile picture and front page.

Anna Ametller’s “Juliol” takes up residence tomorrow at Centre ‘Gabrielet’

cartell 2020 juliolTomorrow at Centre Antoni Tur ‘Gabrielet’, the artist Anna Ametller will pull the curtain back on “Juliol”. The exhibition of recycled artefacts, repurposed by Ametller as sculptures, invites visitors to feel summer as a visual experience. “It’s a feeling that’s pleasant, fresh, poetic and child-like”, offers the artist.

Ametller points out that she plucked many of the materials that made it into the show —driftwood, scrap metal, plastic and rocks— from the Formentera shoreline. For the artist, each one signifies a distinct emotion: wood embodies warmth, for example, while plastics recall the opposite end of the spectrum.

The show opens tomorrow 1 July at 5.00pm, and is scheduled to run Monday to Saturday, 10.30am to 2.00pm and 6.00pm to 8.00pm, until 10 July.

With LLUN3S series, music is at core of Far de la Mola’s full moon parties

cartell 2020 LLUN3SEarlier today the Formentera office of culture unveiled details surrounding the latest from cultural collective Espai F_: a series of music-driven shindigs set in the patio of La Mola’s lighthouse cultural centre and showcasing the three full moons of summer.

Starting as the first moonbeams illuminate the cliffs of El Pilar de la Mola, the evenings bring together an array of musical duos.

Formentera’s own Maria José Cardona and Majorcan Miquel Brunet —a musical foray the pair have christened Imaràntia— top the bill of LLUN3S’s inaugural night, from 9.58pm on 5 July. From 9.21pm on 3 August, Txabi Ábrego lends a hand as Lleida-born singer-songwriter Meritxell Gené presents her most recent effort, Sa Tanca d'Allà dins. And, crowning the series at 8.57 on 2 September are the specialists of Majorcan traditional tunes, singer Júlia Colom and pianist Toni Vaquer.

In line with safety protocol, capacity will be limited to one hundred individuals. Additional considerations have involved assuring a certain measure of harmony with natural surroundings. Ticket requests should be emailed to info.espaifrumentaria@gmail.com and include name of guests and the locations desired. Audiences are asked to arrive thirty minutes before each show, while payment will be conducted after each event, with organisers opting for a pay-what-you-can system as spectators exit.

Designed specifically with the lighthouse patio space in mind, LLUN3S was envisaged as a respectful homage to the full moon parties that became legendary in the La Mola of the seventies and eighties. A joint production of Espai F_ and the cultural arm of the Consell de Formentera, LLUN3S receives additional support from Ports de Balears and Ràdio Illa.
