Motorists who wish to drive on Formentera this summer can make reservations from today

foto 2022 for.ecoThe Formentera Office of Mobility is pleased to report that visitors to formentera.eco can now make reservations to bring, drive and park vehicles on the island between 15 June and 15 September. No more than 19,696 vehicles may be driven on Formentera this summer.

Interested tourists can now reserve their spot simply using the online booking engine. Last year's rates –€1/day, €5 minimum for cars; €0.50/day, €2.50 minimum for mopeds and motorcycles– will continue to apply until entry in force in April or May of a new fee schedule which received initial plenary approval. Under the new regime car drivers will pay €3/day (€15 minimum) and motorcycle drivers €1.50/day (€7.50 minimum).

Residents of Formentera and the rest of the islands and drivers of electric vehicles will pay no charge for the accreditation. Formentera residents with the accreditation to park in the blue zone will be automatically accredited to drive on the island during the enforcement period. Drivers without the accreditation can get it simply and at no charge on formentera.eco.

Rafael González, Councillor of Mobility, encouraged local motorists to request their accreditation and check that the operation worked by entering their vehicle registration number in a specific section of the website. Accreditation is guaranteed for drivers who made overnight or ferry bookings before 8 February publication in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (Butlletí Oficial de les Illes Balears, BOIB) of the new rules.

More controls and new information push

To make sure the rules are followed, Councillor González said that controls would be reinforced this summer. The island currently has monitoring cameras in La Savina and a mobile camera unit. In 2022 monitoring cameras will be installed at the roundabout near the hospital; parking attendants will check parked vehicles, and in La Savina drivers of rental vehicles will have to display information on their rental contract when they park.

González said that an educational push in May would seek to ensure that all vehicles, including those belonging to residents, have an associated authorisation.
