De Far a Far footrace Sunday crosses country roads to link Es Cap and La Mola

far far 2015Details were announced today regarding the second year of the De Far a Far, a footrace linking the two emblematic lighthouses of Formentera across an itinerary of picturesque country roads.

Local councillor of sport Sergio Jiménez sat down before crowds to share details concerning the upcoming event with Council sports specialist Dani de la Dueña and Juan José Escandell, a representative of the local sports group Grup Esportiu Espalmador. Moments after the event Councillor Jiménez received news of the passing of his father, Luis Jiménez.

Participants of the trial will have their pick of two courses: the walked circuit, for which individuals depart from Es Cap at 9am (a start time that was considered more inclusive for participants arriving from Eivissa), and the competitive race, which leaves from the same point at 11am.
Sign-up can be done at formenteraesport365.com or at the front desk of the fitness centre. Included with registration, a serving of paella will be provided at the festivities tent in La Savina at approximately 3pm. Non-participants can opt to take part in the community meal for a price of €12.

Juan José Escandell noted that, in coordinating this year's event, organisers wished to deviate from the circuit used by Formentera All Round Trail: “This course is not as technique-oriented. It is composed of roads and trails which are decidedly less rocky and lacks the kinds of rough patches that mark the All Round Trail.”

The two Consell de Formentera representatives thanked the Espalmador sports group, the Can Coixet and Frufor companies and beach bars 62 and La Franja for their participation in planning the 12 April event. The deadline for registration is set for the afternoon of 10 April.
